You know you’ve arrived when...

Your house doesn’t have a number, just a name! So you’ve definitely arrived when you put down the deposit on Auburn or Sienna, one of the two houses recently completed at Canford Crescent, Poole for prestigious local developer Towncourt Homes. With fabulous contemporary design and stunning attention to detail the developer hopes to buck the downturn in the residential market. It certainly won’t be “kerb appeal” that lets these two down as the Amiri team ensured that they looked stunning. So when your lottery numbers come in, feel free to ring Towncourt and see if either of them are still available!!

Amiri leave University!

Amiri leave UniversityTony Jenkins and Dave Moore have finally left the University of Chichester following their latest success, this time with the delivery of the Summer Works programme. With the provision of a new lecture theatre, installation of a new lift, serving a building that has many different floor levels, DDA works and a big services diversion, the project was one of the most onerous that the University has carried out in the summer shut-down. Having successfully delivered the equally demanding Music Block, our education experts were up for the challenge and the buildings were ready for the students in September. An unqualified success then!

A house in the country!

Our second project for English Developments saw us build more than one house in the country, in fact we converted the old Compton School site to provide a number of houses and apartments. This £1.0m scheme tested the stamina and creativity of Phil Cousens, Dave Moore and Clive Harris as much as any refurbishment scheme can but there’s no denying that it’s a stunning looking project.

Chichester 10K 2008

Resplendent in their t-shirts, drawing plenty of attention with the “Are we nearly there yet?” slogan and with this years charity supported by Project Director Avril Robinson and the big, black monster that is Spike, the record turnout of Amiri runners got their last minute fluids on board, plugged themselves in to whatever music source was going to get them around and then were off. Whilst it was nice for supporters to bask in the sunshine and take advantage of the food and drink provided in “base camp” by the finish line it was rather hot for the runners. With spectators barely recovering from the start Martin Tidby was back in a new Amiri record time of 42 mins and 14s, followed by Dave Moore with a new personal best time. A steady stream of smiley, sweaty, panting runners followed for the next half an hour all welcomed back by the Amiri supporters. Plenty of fruit, cake and drink followed before the traditional game of football with all the children down at the Bosham Inn!!

Meanwhile, still in Chichester...

Vinnetrow Business ParkWell, on the fringes, Amiri are delighted to have successfully completed Project Sycamore, a small office development, for repeat client Kingsbridge Estates, on their Vinnetrow Business Park. Site Manager Brian Melrose, surveyor Mark Formaggia and Contracts Manager Neil Cole worked with client Mark Hooper to deliver an excellent “commercially green” scheme that is now up for let.

Meanwhile, back at Reliant Close...

Having barely moved the site set-up away from our project to refurbish the Reliant Close industrial units for Store Property than Site Manager Alex Pert moved back in to fit-out Unit 2 on behalf of new tenant Gordon’s Fine Foods. Amiri were recommended for the project by both the original client and also the new client’s project manager who had worked with us at Nature’s Way Foods, proving that was goes around comes around. Alex is assisted by Mark Formaggia and Contracts Management support from Neil Cole. Mark’s role is particularly challenging as the project valuable is somewhat flexible depending on how we procur certain trades!

And more Store Property work!

This time it’s Farnham and the refurbishment of two office buildings on the Farnham Business Park site for our fantastic friends at the Store Property Group. The estate, built in the Eighties, is starting to age, and Store are committed to refurbishing and updating the facilities. Tilford and Broadmede Houses are on the agenda for Phil Cousens, Rob Emery and Neil Cole and, if Store do their deals right, then they may be up there for some little while yet working their way through the rest of the estate!

More repeats!!

And whilst writing about repeat clients we are delighted to have secured the £1.1m build of a new Medical Centre at Tangmere, this time with the Rawleigh Property Group for whom we successfully completed the Chichester Trade Park scheme. Tony Jenkins will put his car on automatic pilot as he continues to commute eastbound for the Site Managers role here and he will be assisted by surveyor Mark Formaggia and Contracts Manager Neil Cole.

In short

There’s too much news this time around so a quick summary of those projects that haven’t had a mention:

Started:

  • Munster Road, £2.0m of residential development in Poole for another branch of the Amiri empire. Chris Curtis, John Marsh and Mike Seaton on this one!

Finished:

  • Cranbourne Business and Enterprise Centre, Basingstoke – our first Hampshire County Council project and a stunning success thanks to the efforts of Alex Pert, John Marsh and Neil Cole
  • Ash Vale – a £2.0m industrial and commercial scheme started by Cliff Eves, finished by Alex Pert, surveyed by John Marsh and contracts managed by Neil Cole.

Awarded:

  • Poole High School – a £2.5m scheme to extend and refurbish the dining room, kitchens and provide new classrooms. Vernon Baker will be tearing himself away from the Emmaus ladies and will be joined by John Marsh and supported by Contracts Manager Mike Seaton.
